| Open Championship Round 7
Another excellent days racing resulted in many FTQ improvements. Despite the rather grey skies a muggy and warm but mostly sunless day provided the track conditions for some fast runs. Clive Stockham smashed the Modified track record knocking 1 second off two times to end up with a new record of 15 314.70. With some of the regulars away racing at the BRCA national round at Ashby a chance was there to take away some points. For those not lucky enough to have found a valuable place at Ashby today, their reward was some superb racing at Barham instead. Graham Simmons dominated 27T Stock class, in both qualifying and the final. Gary Horn despite a huge effort could not catch the flying George. In Modified Mike Weatherley pulled out a new personal best to qualify 2nd in Modified, but it was Terry Stockham who managed to fight off the pursuing challenge from Stuart Rand and Clive Stockham to take the A Final win. Several new drivers, with great enthusiasm and a need to improve to get up with the established drivers, have recently been showing that their efforts are paying off. Notable improvers are Darren Tickner, Tony Fuggle and Damon Blackmer. Well done to them, but it should be noted that they could soon be challenged by other upcoming drivers who are about to upgrade to more competitive cars. The summer is not even here yet, and the racing is really hotting up. The prospects for a sizzling summer championship are definately on the cards!! |
